Candidates are expected to have a background in physics, theoretical chemistry, or related quantitative sciences, with an ability to carry out both analytical and computational calculations and in particular a strong interest in biological questions.

Possible research topics include:

a) Application of polymer physics or soft matter physics idea to biological problems (e.g. genome/chromosome compaction, effects of molecular crowding, intrinsically disordered proteins)

b) Dynamics and function of biological nanomachines (transport motors, molecular chaperones, SNARE, ... etc) at single molecule level or their collective dynamics.

c) Dynamics of nucleic acids (DNA, RNA), riboswitch, microRNA biogenesis, and RNA-mediated gene regulation.

d) Heterogeneous (Glassy) dynamics in biology.

e) Understanding molecular allostery through molecular simulations, bioinformatics, and network theory.

f) Understanding single molecule measurement data with theoretical and computational modeling.

The initial appointment for the position is for two years and is renewable for up to two additional years, depending on research performance. Those who are interested are encouraged to send a complete curriculum vitae with a cover letter, a list of publications, a research plan, and three letters of recommendation directly to Prof. Changbong Hyeon (e-mail : hyeoncb@kias.re.kr)

Postdoctoral and PhD positions in molecular simulations

Molecular simulation of co-solvent effects on macromolecules

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in computational physical chemistry (Prof. Nico van der Vegt), Technische Universitt Darmstadt, Germany, starting date 1st August 2015. The proposed project deals with modeling co-solvent and specific ion effects on collapse/folding equilibria of water-soluble polymers and peptides by means of molecular simulations. The position is for one year, with possibility for renewal up to three years. Requirements for this position include: a PhD in an appropriate field, strong background in molecular simulation methods and statistical mechanics, excellent communication and organizational skills including excellent written and spoken English, programming skills, a desire and ability to work well in a team.

Applications including a statement of interest and curriculum vitae should be sent to vandervegt@csi.tu-darmstadt.de

Postdoc positions in Computational Materials Design

We are happy to announce multiple openings in the area of computational materials discovery and design. Postdoc positions are for a period of up to 3 years. Normal duration of a PhD is 3 years, of a Masters program 2 years. Successful candidates will develop and apply novel methods of computational materials discovery (ranging from optimization algorithms to machine learning and data mining). Newly developed methods will become part of our USPEX code (http://uspex.stonybrook.edu) and will be applied to problems ranging from physics of extreme conditions to biochemical studies, from energetic to electronic materials. Successful candidates will have solid background and a degree in at least one of these fields: physics, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, Earth sciences, and programming skills are very desirable (though not necessary). Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, a publication list, and reprints of a few selected publications to Prof. Artem R. Oganov (a.r.oganov@mail.ru).
The positions are available immediately, and the starting date is negotiable. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Selected applicants will receive a highly competitive compensation package (salary commensurate with experience, qualifications and previous publication record, housing allowance in case relocation to Moscow will be needed, medical insurance). Excellent travel and computing support will be provided. For further information please contact Prof. Artem R. Oganov (a.r.oganov@mail.ru).
