A PhD fellowship (Theoretical Chemistry) is available in the International Research Training Group (IRTG 1422, Internationales Graduiertenkolleg) /
International PhD Program
Metal Sites in Biomolecules: Structures, Regulation and Mechanisms funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the
Georg-August-Universitaet Goettingen.
Project: The student will take part in the International Research Training Group 1422 as a member of the 'Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry'
group. Research carried out in the IRTG investigates the structures, the regulation and the function of natural and artificial metallobiosites.
The project will focus on the development of hybrid quantum mechanics methods [J. Chem. Phys. 128 (2008) 144106] for the theoretical study of
such systems. The successful candidate will be involved in program coding as well as computational applications within the IRTG framework.
Requirements: Applicants should have completed their graduate studies (Master or Diploma) in Chemistry or Physics. Applicants with experience
in computational chemistry programs and/or programming (in particular C and scripting languages) will be favored although such experience is not
a prerequisite for the position.
Organization: The 'Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry' group is a Free-Floater Research Group recently established at the
Georg-August-University Goettingen within the scope of the German Excellence Initiative. The University ranks among the top research
Institutions in the country, offering excellent career opportunities for young researchers. The IRTG offers a high-level teaching program
including lecture and seminar series, method and soft skill courses.
Application Details: Candidates should upload curriculum vitae, a motivation letter together with two references via the online form
located at www.uni-goettingen.de/positions-exini by July 20th, 2011 (24.00 hrs local time Goettingen, Germany). For more information on
the position and the research group, please contact Jun.-Prof. Ricardo Mata (rmata[at]gwdg.de).
The University of Goettingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women.
Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
