The Robert Koch Institute is one of the central institutions for health protection in Germany. It serves the Federal Ministry of Health as a central scientific institution in the field of biomedicine. The Institute combines basic research with risk assessment and with political advice. Research Assistant/PhD Student
(Up to salary scale 13 TV�D 50%, depending on qualification and experience. The TV�D is the collective salary system for the public service in Germany.)
Duties and responsibilities:
� Development of algorithms and software tools for the robust analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and mass spectrometry (MS) data
� Analysis of high dimensional genomics and proteomics datasets related to relevant disease focused research questions
� Close collaboration with experimental groups in the fields of genomics and proteomics including the verification and interpretation of results and their relevance
� Publication and presentation of research results
Required Qualifications:
� Master�s degree in statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, physics or a related field
� Experience in algorithm development
� Computer programming skills, e.g. in R, Matlab or Python
� Preferred qualifications include practical experience or in depth skills in at least one of the following fields
o Application and development of statistical methods or machine learning algorithms
o Analysis of high dimensional datasets
o Software engineering methods and in-depth programming skills, e.g. in C++
o Molecular biology (genomics/proteomics) and experience in the collaboration with biomedical groups
� Interest and enthusiasm for biomedical research questions
� Excellent command of English (written and spoken); knowledge of German is a plus
